Constitutionalism has gradually taken root in East Asia. Constitutional review is now being performed in most, if not all, of East Asia by either courts or general jurisdiction or specialized constitutional courts. Traditional law school approaches to the study of constitutional law pay relatively little attention, however, to the interaction between constitutional adjudication and politics, or to the impact of this interaction on the development of constitutional law in East Asia including Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, China, Hong Kong as well as some Southeast Asian States.

在當代自由民主憲政秩序的發展上，東亞國家愈來愈占有相當之份量，尤其在1980年代末期，南韓及臺灣相繼成為全球表現亮眼之新興民主憲政國家後，更是如此。2007年是日本戰後憲法實施六十週年，也是中華民國憲法實施的六十週年；2008年，則是南韓戰後憲法制定六十週年，南韓憲法法院正式運作二十週年，也是我國司法院大法官正式運作六十週年。這些時間點上的契合，其實不只是巧合，也清楚呈現日本、南韓及台灣這三個東亞的憲政民主國家從二次戰前到戰後彼此間在政治、經濟、制度與文化間相互影響、甚至依賴的關係。但由於語言的限制，東亞各國間事實上也沒有相通之語言，要研究其憲法發展並不容易。所幸，在近年比較研究風潮之下，各國都愈來愈重視將相關憲法發展（尤其是憲法裁判）予以英文化，提供了使用英文的研究者一個深入瞭解東亞憲政發展並進行比較研究的契機。因此，在台灣思考或研究比較憲法、甚或憲法學理之相關問題，不能再僅僅是唯歐美國家是瞻。東亞國家我們不能也無法忽略。
